Bearers in a Daimyo Procession take a rest at the Seki Station, their banners and standards resting on the roof edges. Seki was one of the three most-feared stations on the Tokaido, where travelers would be checked for credentials and possibly even turned away if they did not carry proper ones (or proper attitudes before the samurai superiors.) The town was nonetheless popular, as it had one of the best pleasure quarters on the road, where one could find comfort.
