Huang Chaokuan (1896-1971), also known as Wong Chiufoon
A native of Kaiping, Guangdong. Huang lived with his mother and sister after the death of his father when he was three years old. He migrated to Boston of United States at the age of fourteen with the help of his uncle. In 1917, he entered the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy of New York (now called Albright-Knox Art Gallery) to study fine arts. His tuition fee was exempted after his excellent performance in the first year. In 1918, he was graduated with the most outstanding student award from the Academy. In 1920, he entered the Drawing and Painting Faculty of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PafA). In May 1922, he was awarded the Cresson Trave11ing Scholarship by PafA. The value of the scholarship was US$700 which was set up for outstanding art students of PafA to make studying tours in Europe. Using this scholarship, Huang visited France, Italy and Switzerland. He was graduated from PafA in 1925. Huang went back to Guangzhou of China in 1926. After the end of the Sino-Japanese war in 1945, he left China and went to Hong Kong and spent the rest of his life there.
In Hong Kong, Huang spent most of his time in teaching arts and in promoting western-style paintings. Many of his art students have become famous painters in Hong Kong now. Huang was also very active in participating numerous arts exhibitions in China and Hong Kong. He passed away in Hong Kong in 1971 at the age of 75.
黃潮寬 (1896-1971)
1896年於廣東省開平出生。1910年由伯父申請到美國波士頓。1916年入讀紐約百佛廬市美術學校。1918年獲全校第一名特獎。1920轉讀費城賓夕法尼亞州藝術學院。1922年 ，獲頒Cresson遊學獎學金，前往歐洲考察。1923年獲美院一等獎。1925在賓夕法尼亞州藝術學院畢業後，入讀費城工業美術學校。1926年離美返回中國。
回中國後，於1927年加入廣州赤社，與社友輪流擔任教畫工作。此外還為《伴侶》創刊號畫插圖，直至該雜誌在翌年初停刊為止。1930年，與蕭潔貞女士結婚。婚後，為維持家庭生計，曾先後在中外合資的實業公司任職，工餘時始為人畫肖像。1931年春，與陳福善、李毓棠、胡秉坤、何尊和李秉等合組青華藝術社，但因經濟困難，只維待了兩個月便結束。1932年與李毓棠、余子強於灣仔莊士敦道合辦了一所美術學院，但學院因缺乏學生，於同年冬停辦。1934年，應邀到上海的廣州嶺南學校上海分校任教，並且為該校繪製兩幅壁畫。此外，偕同王少陵、余子強到上海，為上海證券交易所合繪兩幅巨型壁畫以及為中國銀行南京白下路分行繪一幅大型壁畫。1935年，應簡又文之邀，為其上海寓所的書室，與余子強合繪半圓壁畫，題為「夏娃的蘋果」，並且為簡母劉太夫人繪畫肖像。1936年，黃氏加入香港美術會。其時該會只得少數華人會員。1937年，因蘆溝橋事變，離滬返港。1939年11月，加入中國文化協進會，為第一屆美術研究委員會委員。1941年12月，香港淪陷，黃與家人回鄉避難。1945年香港光復後，黃與家人返港，繼續於司徒拔道嶺南中學任教美術。1956年夏，與港中文化界人士作華北、東北和華東等地遊，同遊者包括余本、李凡夫及黃般若等。1960年在嶺南中學退休。退休後，黃氏曾在先後在香港不同地點設立畫室，並且在香港美專和嶺海藝術專科學校任教。黃氏於1972年病逝香港，享年75歲。
展覽資料
黃潮寬一生並未曾舉行個展，但其作品曾多次參加於香港及海外舉行的聯合畫展，如下:-
1922《第十二屆賓夕法尼亞州水彩畫及第二十一屆袖珍畫年展》
1929 中華民國第一屆全國美術展覽會，入選作品《琴心》
1930 赤社第九次繪畫展覽。
1937 中華民國第二屆全國美術展覽會，入選作品五幅，包括《斜陽》、《春雨》、《和風》、《春耕》和《唐少川先生肖像》。
1940 中國、中英、中美文化協會和香港藝術研究杜合辦的第五次藝術觀賞會，展出作品有《重習作》、《山居》。
1944 由廣東開平縣舉辦的義賣畫展，這次義賣是為籌措該縣難童所需經費而舉辦的。
1950 於香港思豪酒店(Cecil Hotel)舉辦的七人聯合畫展，所知展出作品至少有《鄉居》。於大新公司舉行西洋畫十四人聯合展覽，所知展出作品至少有《風雨歸牧》。
1951 於思豪酒店畫廊舉行香港風光畫展。
1956 聯同伍步雲、余本、徐東白、陳福善、陳海鷹、梁蔭本及李流丹，於廣州文化公園舉行《香港畫家作品展覽會》，作品約共130多幅，黃有多幅風景畫及《母與子》參展。此展覽及後在中國各地作巡迴展出。
1957 《香港畫家作品展覽會》在北京中央美術學院展出。期後，移師上海展出。香港十二畫家第二屆聯展，在香港花園道聖約翰
教堂展出，作品包括《小童像》。
1958 香港十二畫家第三屆聯展，在香港花園道聖約翰教堂展出。
1962 於中華總商會九樓舉行的七人油畫欣賞會，展出作品包括兩幅《印度老人》、《朝霞》、《木棉花開》。
