Biographical Notes
A native of Shanghai, Gu was the grand-daughter of the noted Shanghai painter Gu Yun. She founded the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Society for Women in Shanghai and also taught art and history at the National Fine Arts Assocation . In 1950, she settled in Hong Kong . In 1958, she was apponted a lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts, New Asia College. In 1972, she migated to Canada.
Gu Qingyao
received tuition from her family in the young age. She excelled
in painting landspaces in ink and light color, and was also noted
for painting flowers in the style of the Chinese literati school.
Selected Exhibition Records
Gu Qingyao's works were widely exhibited in Hong Kong and overseas. Her works were featured in solo exhibitions including 'Koo Tsin-yaw: Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Carving' (Hong Kong Museum of Art.1979) and joint exhibitions including ' Works of Calligraphy and Painting by Chinese Women Artists' (Shanghai .1934) , a touring exhibition to Southeast Asia (jointly presented by the British Council and the Hong Kong Chung Kok Chinese Art Club, Hong Kong.1956), "Works by the Teachers and Students of the New Asia College' (Yale University, U.S.A.1959), a travelling exhibition to West Germany (1963-1964) and 'Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Carving by Koo Tsin-yaw andHer Students'(City Hall, Hong Kong.1968), 'Build the Hong Kong with Action and Vision' (Hong Kong.1997) etc.
Award
Gu Qingyao was granted the First Prize at the 'Calligraphy and Painting by Chinese Women Artists' competition organised by Shanghai News (1933).

生平略歷
上海人。晚清上海名畫家顧澐之孫女。1934年於上海創辦中國女子書畫會，同年任錫珍女子中學美術及歷史科教席。1945年被選為全國美術協會理事。1950年來港。1958年任新亞書院藝術系講師。1972年移居加拿大。
顧青瑤幼承家學，擅繪水墨及淺絳山水，兼擅畫花卉，具有文人畫風格。
展覽資料
顧青瑤作品曾多次於香港及海外展出。個展包括「顧青瑤:書、畫、篆刻」展(香港藝術館.1979)等。聯展包括「中國女子書畫作品展」(上海.1934)、東南亞巡迴畫展(英國文化協會與香港中國美術會合辦.1956)、「新亞書院藝術系師生聯展」(美國耶魯大學.1959)、西德巡迴展(1963-64)、「師生書畫篆刻展」(香港大會堂.1968)、「用行動與憧憬建設未來慈善畫展」(香港大會堂.1997)等。
獎項
曾獲上海新聞報舉辦「全國婦女書畫比賽」首獎(1933)。
