Jin Nong (1687-1773),

zi Shoumen, Sinong, JUin7 hao Dongxin xiansbeng, Jiliu Shanmin, Qujiang Waishi, etc., was a native of Renhe, Zhejiang. He was fond of travel and later resided in Yangzhou where he earned his living by selling paintings. He was also one of the "Eight Eccentrics of the Yangzhou School".

Jin was proficient in calligraphy, painting and seal carving. He successfully synthesized the calligraphic styles of the clerical and regular scripts to form his individual style which was known as "qtshu" (lacquer script). He started his career as a painter late at the age of fifty. His favourite subj&cts include plum blossoms, bamboo, horses, Buddhist images, figures and landscapes. His works are noted for strange compositions and stern and blunt bmshwork. Jin was one of the most influential professional painters in the late Qing period.

金農(16871773

清代書畫家、詩人。字壽門,又字司農、吉金,號冬心先生、稽留山民、曲江外史、昔耶居士、心書家盦、粥飯僧等,浙江仁和(今杭州).早年讀書于何焯家,并與丁敬等相交。高宗乾隆元年(1736)薦舉博學鴻詞科,入京未就而返,好游歷,客揚州最久。賣畫自給,居三祝庵、西方寺,至衰老窮困而死。善詩,借鑒李商隱、陸龜蒙,能自出機杼,傾瀉胸臆,而又深于比興,格調奇逸,書法工纂B楷,艦H補厚見長,楷多譟N,自創一格,號稱"漆書",從<天發神籤碑>,<圖山碑>、<谷朗碑>中蛻化而來,能篆刻,得秦漢法;嗜奇好古,收金石文字干卷,精鑑賞,辨別古書畫真偽,五十歲后始作畫,學問淵博,修養高深,不同凡俗,自題仿作,實具新意,寫竹、梅、鞍馬,佛像、人物、山水等,筆黑拙淳樸,布局構圖,別出心裁,居當時畫壇首席,為揚州八怪之一,但有相當多的作品是他弟子羅聘、項均和童子陳彭代筆,金農對此也不隱諱,傳世畫[有乾隆二十五年(1760}作<雙色梅花圖>軸,現藏中國美術館, 二十六年作<玉壺春色圖>軸,藏南京博物院,<采菱圖>冊頁,藏上海博物館,書[有乾隆九年蠔恁晛袪q如海帖>,今流入日本,著有<冬心先生集>、<冬心雜畫題記>、<冬心著硯銘>等。
