Huang Yi (1744-1802),

zi Dayl, 'tao xiaosong, Qiu'an, was a native of Renhe, Zhejiang. He was Huang Shugu's son and had served as sub-prefect of the Jining district.

Huang was proficient in calligraphy, particularly the clerical script written in a distinctive manner with reference to the inscriptions on ancient bronzes and vessels. He was also a renowned seal carver and was one of the "Eight Masters of the Xiling School". Landscape and flower are his favourite subjects of painting. The former, painted with sparse brushstrokes and in pale ink washes, successfully captures the stylistic essence of Dong Yuan and Juran; while the latter follows closely the style of Yun Shouping. He was particularly noted for painting plum blossoms in ink.

黃易(1744-1802) 別號 黃小松

字大易、大業,號小松,秋庵、秋盦,秋影庵主、散花灘人、蓮宗弟子、寓林後人。齋堂為小松齋、尊古齋、秋景盦、秋影盦、小蓬萊閣、種德堂。浙江仁和(今杭州)人。原籍錢塘,久居紹興。父樹谷,以孝聞。監生,官至山東濟南運河府同知。勤於職守,精究河防水利之法,凡堤墊大工,閘口蓄泄,必親臨其地。每年伏汛、秋汛,晝夜殫力捍禦,兌漕趲運諸務,籌劃備至。

工隸書,博通金石。易幼承家學,貧而遊幕於外。能詩文,尤工填詞,又長篆刻,所作醇厚淵雅,揚秦、漢篆之優,推陳出新。師從丁敬,並稱“丁黃”。為西泠八家之一,與丁敬,蔣仁、奚岡齊 名。書法更具匠心,其隸書別成一體,古隸法中參以鼎,愈見古雅。喜畫山水,宗婁東派,法董源、巨然,參以明四家筆意,並融入金石趣味。所畫多為古[實景,筆墨清雋,簡明清寂。花卉宗惲壽平,饒有逸致,尤善墨梅。曾作《看潮圖》、《溪水清遠圖》、《李竹懶詩意圖》、《墨梅圖》和《仿元人觀瀑圖》等。傳世畫跡有《梅花圖》、《開河舟中詩意扇》、《嵩洛訪碑圖》冊、《岱麓訪碑圖》冊等,現藏北京故宮博物院。

尤嗜金石,寢食依之。廣搜碑刻,倍加愛護,在濟甯升豎鄭季宣全碑於曲阜;得熹平二年殘碑於嘉祥之紫雲山;得武班碑、武梁祠堂石室畫像,就地築室,旁砌石題字“武氏祠堂”,立石以記之。收藏石刻達3000餘種,人所未見者占其半。出家藏宋石經殘字及城陽靈台魏元丕、朱龜、譙敏、王稚子、范式諸刻,雙u而鋟諸木。又藏古印、錢、刀、z、鼎、爐、鏡數百種,均有考證辨偽,人稱“文藝金石巨家”,凡四方嗜古之士,所得奇文古刻,多求正于易。翁方鋼嘗曰:“黃伯思、米芾而後,世久無此人矣!”繪有《訪碑圖》,著有《小蓬萊閣金石文字》、《小蓬萊閣詩》。《清史稿》有傳。
