Li Jian (1747-1799),

zi Jianmin, Weicai, hao Erqiao, Shiding Daoshi, etc., was a native of Shunde, Guangdong. Li attained national renown for his poetry, calligraphy and painting. In his early years, he followed closely the painting style of the Sbitao whose works he found to be spiritually and conceptually akin to his own. Later he went further back to Wu ihen and Ni Zan of the Yuan dynasty, and developed a multi-faceted style, characterized by a visual richness and a sense of remote tranquility. He was one of the most important Guangdong painters in the Qing dynasty.
